Maarten Schut

Maarten is a partner in the life sciences team of Kennedy Van der Laan and has been working as an attorney in the field of Intellectual Property since 2000, with a strong emphasis on the exploitation and protection of technology (in particular biotechnology).

Maarten regularly assists multinationals and renowned research institutions in structuring complex R&D co-operations and negotiating technology driven transactions. Moreover, Maarten is an experienced litigator, handling patent, trademark and general intellectual property litigation in the Dutch courts. Maarten studied law in Utrecht (cum laude) as well as liberal arts. He earned an LL.M in European Law from the University of Cambridge. After his studies he worked for some time as a journalist for one of the Dutch public channels. Then, he began a multi-year work and training program to become a district court judge. He received a rigorous training in civil and criminal law, and worked as a public prosecutor and a judge before joining Kennedy Van der Laan.
